Simple DIY Faux Fireplace

Unless you are one of the lucky ones who already has a fireplace in your house or apartment, you’re probably like me: dreaming about having a cozy fireplace. Well, I am here with one of my favorite DIYs EVER to fix this problem: a super simple, faux fireplace. Seriously, this ended up being so easy, I could hardly believe it!

Really all you will need is a wooden frame or mirror (I found mine on Facebook Marketplace for $7!!!!) and some paint & primer.

The first step is to get the remove the mirror if your frame has one. This will differ slightly for each mirror, but for mine, this consisted of removing some screws and staples.

Next, to really get that “fireplace” look, you’ll want to remove the bottom of your frame. To do this, we gently knocked the bottom piece out at the seams.

We ended up with a few dents from this, so we used some wood filler to fix this. This took a few coats of filler.

Once the filler was completely dry, I sanded it down, starting with a heavy grit (lower number) and working my way to a fine grit (higher number). Then, I gave the front of the frame a good sand with a finer grit sandpaper to rough it up before priming.

The final steps are pretty simple: prime and paint! I used one coat of primer on the front and back, and then two coats of my chosen color (Holly Jolly from Dutch Boy).

Especially on the final coat, make sure to pay attention to your brush strokes, making them as neat as a possible.

Once it was fully dried, I used some picture-hanging wire and a hook to attach it to the wall, and then I styled with some cozy Christmas items!
