Easy Weasley Sweater
If you’ve somehow found yourself on Harry Potter TikTok like me, you might be reliving your childhood obsession, as well. Christmas at Hogwarts always looked so cozy- especially with those handmade sweaters, made with love by Mrs. Weasley. Purchasing an official Weasley sweater is quite expensive (not to mention it supports J.K. Rowling, which we don’t do here), so I found an easy way to make your own!
My sweater has a stockinette stitch (the classic “v” stitch), so that is what I will be going over. To start, tie a knot a few times at the end of your yarn and thread it through your embroidery needle. Then, pull your needle up from the inside of your sweater where you want to start your letter. I decided to do an “R” for my friend, Rebecca! You could print a stencil to use, but I just pulled up an image from the movie and used that as a reference.
To stitch over a stockinette stitch, pull your yarn up to the left point of the “v” and thread it down at the bottom (or top) point of the “v”. Then, come up at the right point of the “v” and go back down through the bottom (or top) point. Repeat this by going up at the left point of the next stitch. When you run out of yarn, just tie it off on the inside of your sweater and start a new piece.
Repeat this until you’ve made your letter! This definitely got easier the further along I went, so just keep going if you get stuck. The best part of this DIY is that it is supposed to look home-made, so don’t worry if everything isn’t perfect—that’s the point!
